A CELEBRATION OF ISLAND ART

THE PROJECT

The Rotary Club of Nanaimo North is inviting all artists on Vancouver Island to participate in a project to create a unique Island Art Calendar.

CRITICAL DATES

Critical dates - all dates, EXCEPT April 17th deadline, are provisional and subject to change:

April 17th deadline for submission of artwork by email to art@rotarycalendar.org

Until May 29th - online balloting of art work for inclusion in calendar at www.rotarycalendar.org

????? - exhibition of art work and balloting at Gallery 223, 223 Commercial St, Nanaimo.

???? - art auction event in Nanaimo.

ELIGIBLE ARTWORK

Artwork will be juried for acceptance. All visual two-dimensional media will be accepted -for example - watercolour, acrylic, oil, pastel and printmaking. Keep in mind that the Calendar will be approximately 15 inches wide and 12 inches tall.

SUBMISSION PROCEDURE

Please submit work along with a photo of the artist, a biography of the artist of up to 100 words, and a description of the artwork of up to 100 words via email to art@rotarycards.com. Jurying will take place in early April and the 20 successful artists will have their work displayed at www.rotarycards.com. The public will be asked to purchase ballots on line at this site to bid on which of the 20 pieces they wish to be included in the Calendar.

Please email an intent to submit to art@rotarycards.com asap so we can have an idea of the interest in this project.

ART AUCTION IN MAY

The 20 selected winners should deliver their original art in exhibition ready state to Gallery 223 at 223 Commercial Street in Nanaimo on a date to be announced. There will be further balloting at the Gallery until the date of the Art Auction. The auction will sell all the pieces with 60% of to proceeds going to the artist. If anyone wishes to acquire the art they are encouraged to attend the event, either in person or by emailing a bid price.

RIGHTS TO USE OF SUBMITTED ART

As part of the submission of art for this contest artists are agreeing to share copyright with Rotary Nanaimo North, if their work is selected for show and auction. The Rotary Club of Nanaimo North will retain no right to the works that are not selected, nor will it retain any other right to reproduction beyond display of the jury selected works on a website (limited definition JPEGs), display and sale of the selected original works at an auction and reproduction of the 12 winning works in a quality art calendar.
